Vasilis Makris, MD
Dr.
Makris is an ocular surgeon practicing general ophthalmology with a
special interest in anterior segment surgery. Dr. Makris received his
Bachelor of Science degree from Valparaiso University in northwestern
Indiana, and his Master of Science degree in biochemistry from Loyola
University of Chicago. He completed his medical degree studies at
Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis (IUPUI). He
served his internship at St. Vincent's Hospital on the north side of
Indianapolis. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology at
Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Some of the many
honors and awards that Dr. Makris has earned include: earning the
Peter V. Westheysen and Dr. Halstead S. Murat Academic Scholarships,
serving as Chairman of his Graduate School Committee, receiving a Full
Academic Assistantship, making the Dean’s Honor List, being selected
for residency at Cambridge, England and Earning the Merit Award for
Outstanding On-Duty Performance from the Valparaiso University Police
Department. He is board certified by the American Board of
Ophthalmology and the American Board of Eye Surgery. He is an
Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Indiana
University School of Medicine. His professional affiliations include
being a: Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Member of
the American Medical Association, Board Member and Legislative Liaison
for the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology, Fellow of the American
College of Eye Surgeons, Member of the American Society of Cataract &
Refractive Surgeons, Manuscript Reviewer for the American Academy of
Ophthalmology, Lecturer at National and International meetings on
small incision cataract surgery, Member of the Indianapolis Academy of
Ophthalmology, Member of the International Society of Cataract and
Refractive Surgery, Member of the International Paralympic Committee,
Medical Officer with both the United States Association of Blind
Athletes and the International Blind Sports Association.
Lori Johnston, OD
Dr.
Lori Johnston is an optometrist who graduated from both Indiana
University, where she was on the Dean’s List and a member of the Delta
Gamma Sorority, and the Illinois College of Optometry, where she
received Honors in Primary Care Services and Cornea / Contact Lenses.
She has clinical experience in Primary Care, Cornea / Contact Lenses,
Pediatrics, Binocular Vision Services, Low Vision Services and
Advanced Care Services. Dr. Johnston is a member of both the Illinois
and American Optometric Associations. She has been an optometrist
since 1999 and is licensed in both Illinois and Indiana.
Michael Bloom, MD
Dr.
Bloom specializes in pediatric ophthalmology. He received his Bachelor
of Science degree from Ohio State University and earned his medical
degree at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He has
completed postdoctoral training at the: Children's Hospital of
Michigan, Kresge Eye Institute, Southern Illinois University School of
Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Some of Dr. Bloom’s
numerous awards and honors include: winning second place at the
Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Alpha Omega Alpha
Research Symposium, earning Honors Citations for Individual Study in
Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology Clinical Rotation, receiving Letters
of Commendation in Family Medicine and Radiology, being awarded the
Roessler Research Scholarship, making the Deans List and belonging to
Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Societies.
