Hordeolum
What is Hordeolum?
Hordeolum is a bacterial infection of the meibomian or ciliary glands. Symptoms of hordeolum include, swollen eyelids and extreme sensitivity to lid palpitation. There might be a pimple-like lesion at the lid margin.
What are Treatments for Hordeolum?
The standard treatment for
hordeolum has traditionally been topical antibiotic solutions and ointments. It is now believed, however, that oral antibiotic
therapy is necessary to be effective. Warm compresses are helpful to mobilize the mucous in the nodule.
